HCTC College Prep(IN-PERSON at HCTC Brooklyn Park and ONLINE)

Fridays

10:00am to 12:00pm

Fall Session: September 11, 2026 - May 28, 2027.

  • Strategies for improving reading comprehension

  • Constructing effective writing

  • Expanding academic vocabulary

Prerequisite: High Intermediate ESL+, must be planning to attend HCTC


Paraprofessional Training & Certification(ONLINE)

Tuesdays & Thursdays

5:30pm to 7:30pm

Fall Session: October 6, 2026 - November 19, 2026.

Winter Session: January 12, 2027 - February 25, 2027.

Spring Session: April 4, 2027 - May 20, 2027.

  • Paraeducator Online Assessment preparation

  • Overview of special education

  • Child development theories and principles

Prerequisite: High Intermediate ESL+, must have GED or high school diploma


Introduction to Educational Interpreting(ONLINE)

Tuesdays

6:00pm to 8:30pm

Fall Session: October 6, 2026 - December 15, 2026.

  • Prepare to work as teacher assistants, cultural liaisons, or student advocates

  • Learn about the American educational system

  • Special education services and laws

Prerequisite: High Intermediate ESL+


Community Interpreter Training(ONLINE)

Mondays & Wednesdays

6:00pm to 8:30pm

Fall Session: October 7, 2026 - December 16, 2026.

  • Prepare to work as an interpreter in schools, community centers, refugee centers

  • Improve memory skills

  • Learn note taking strategies

Prerequisite: High Intermediate ESL+, must have a GED or high school diploma


Commercial Driver’s License(ONLINE)

Tuesdays

6:00pm to 8:30pm

Fall Session: October 13, 2026 - December 15, 2026.

  • Explore transportation careers

  • Learn the rules of driving a commercial vehicle and study to pass the CDL Class B test

  • Prepare for possible employment with Bloomington Public Schools as a bus driver

Prerequisite: High Intermediate ESL+. Must have valid Minnesota driver’s license with a clean driving record


Introduction to Basic Medical Language for Community and Healthcare Interpreters(ONLINE)

Tuesdays

6:00pm to 8:30pm

Spring Session: March 3, 2027 - May 12, 2027.

  • Understand the basics of the healthcare system in the US

  • Learn basic medical terminology

  • Learn the most important laws and procedures that you need to know

Prerequisite: Low Intermediate ESL+, must have a GED or high school diploma
