HCTC College Prep

(IN-PERSON at HCTC Brooklyn Park and ONLINE)

Fridays

10:00am to 12:00pm

Fall Session: September 11, 2026 - May 28, 2027.

  • Strategies for improving reading comprehension

  • Constructing effective writing

  • Expanding academic vocabulary

Prerequisite: Open to GED students (TABE Requirements), ESL students currently attending Hennepin Technical College, and Advanced ESL students with a high school diploma who meet testing requirements.

Paraprofessional Training & Certification

(ONLINE)

Tuesdays & Thursdays

5:30pm to 7:30pm

Fall Session: October 6, 2026 - November 19, 2026.

Winter Session: January 12, 2027 - February 25, 2027.

Spring Session: April 4, 2027 - May 20, 2027.

  • Paraeducator Online Assessment preparation

  • Overview of special education

  • Child development theories and principles

Prerequisite: Reading level ABE 4/ESL 6, Math level ABE 3, must have GED or high school diploma, and be eligible to work in the United States.

Introduction to Basic Medical Language for Community and Healthcare Interpreters

(ONLINE)

Tuesdays

6:00pm to 8:30pm

Spring Session: March 3, 2027 - May 12, 2027.

  • Understand the basics of the healthcare system in the US

  • Learn basic medical terminology

  • Learn the most important laws and procedures that you need to know

Prerequisite: Score of 223+ on GOALS 2, must have a GED or high school diploma, and be eligible to work in the United States.

Community Interpreter Training

(ONLINE)

Mondays & Wednesdays

6:00pm to 8:30pm

Fall Session: October 7, 2026 - December 16, 2026.

  • Prepare to work as an interpreter in schools, community centers, refugee centers

  • Improve memory skills

  • Learn note taking strategies

Prerequisite: Score of 223+ on GOALS 2, must have a GED or high school diploma, and be eligible to work in the United States.
